Like all other natural stones, granite is naturally porous. This means it is susceptible to stains and germs until it is sealed. Granite requires regular annual maintenance. 

 

The first sealing is required upon installation and then needs to be resealed every 1 - 5 years depending on the color and porosity of the granite and the quality of the sealer. The Sealer we apply is rated at 15 YEARS. A properly applied topical sealer will provide good water, oil, and grease resistance. Think of a good sealer like a coating of wax for the car. Spills never actually come in contact with the stone, sealing it behind a protective film.
